PVC vinyl flooring, commonly known as Marley Flooring, is used in dance studios and similar applications to protect users from injury. Physical activity on hard concrete floors can cause muscle and joint damage and stress injury. This type of flooring can provide the necessary protection from injury. Most dance floors include a sub-flooring as well for additional protection. These are often called sprung floors. The type of flooring and sub flooring can determine how hard or soft the floor is.
Marley tape is crucial to the installation of a Marley Floor. To install the flooring, the materials must first be acclimated to the temperature and humidity in the area in which it is to be installed. It should be stored in the area for 24-48 hours prior to installation.
The original hardwood or concrete floor should be thoroughly cleaned and swept before installation. This will prevent debris from being trapped beneath the new flooring and causing bumps. Floors that will be moved are assembled by using Marley floor tape to construct a joint between the vinyl panels. Permanent installations require double stick Marley tape seams between panels. These seams must be a tight as possible.
Marley tape comes in a standard 2 inch width and several colors including black, grey, clear and white. The color should be as close to the color of the floor as possible, so that the tape doesn't create a distraction on stage. Most of the tapes have a texture similar to that of the floors, so that dancers are not distracted by the tape on the floor.
Marley tape is an important aspect of dance floor installation. Quality tape and quality installation will lead to a great dance floor.
